Zante enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with short mild, wetter winters and long hot summers with up to 13 hours of sunshine a day. The hottest months to visit Zante are during July and August when temperatures can reach up to 95ºF (35ºC), though cooling winds from the west offer some relief. June and September are still hot months with average temperatures of 82ºF (28ºC).

Zante is full of great entertainment venues such as Water Village which is full of slides and pools for the whole family to enjoy. The laser centre in Tsilivi offers a large playground, bouncy castles and supervised games. Another popular family day out is a trip to Smugglers cove to see the 'shipwreck beach' which can only be accessed by boat.
Zante offers a whole host of historic and cultural sights, including a number of churches and the museum which is dedicated to Dionysios Solomos, a 19th century poet from the island.
Boat trips are popular here and with loads of bays, coves and peninsulas it can be a great way to explore. There are also some great opportunities for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as rambling, coving or exploring the rolling hills covered in olive groves and pine trees or take advantage of the wide range of watersports that are available.
Zante is home to the Loggerhead Turtle, which are very well conserved and respected on the island. During the summer months holidaymakers can visit Laganas and Kalamaki and take a glass-bottomed boat trip to view the turtles or even take a swim with them.

The cuisine is based on a Mediterranean diet using the best home grown ingredients as well as olive oil. The best way to enjoy traditional cuisine in Zante is by having a meze, a selection of starters and appetizers of all kinds both hot and cold.
Fast food restaurants are springing up all over the island where a bargain meal can be had. You can dine in luxury at one of the many restaurants or go for a more traditional meal in one of the local tavernas. A common dish eaten in Zante is the Souvlaki or Gyros, usually made up of lamb, beef or pork served in a pita bread with salad.
