The natural beauty and landscape of the island can be explored in a number of ways, from horseback riding to mountain biking and trekking to hiking, all of which are very popular activities in La Palma.
A trip to Santa Cruz, the capital is a great day out. Visit the Museo de Historia which is situated in an ancient monastery and holds many local art treasures. Or if you fancy something outdoors why not just wander round the cobbled, tree lined streets and check out the small craft shops and little cafes.
Another great day out and possibly one of the most enjoyable is a trip on a glass bottom boat to do a spot of whale or dolphin watching. The boats leave from the port of Tazacorte and skirt the coastline before venturing into deeper waters for a close encounter with playful dolphins or a majestic whale. This is a very popular trip, especially with the children so make sure you have your camera with you.
For those who enjoy the great outdoors, a trip to the National Park at Caldera de Taburiente is a must. The park is home to the largest volcanic crater in the world which measures over 5 miles in diameter, with striking volcanic rock formations and a ring of surrounding mountain peaks which creates some beautiful, unique scenery.

The cuisine in La Palma is very diverse with fish being the most commonly eaten product. Fresh sardines can be bought from the local fisherman who deliver these to the houses in the La Punta area. One of the specialities of Cocomar is fresh fish in sauce. Most of the cuisine is Mediterranean based with Canarian character added to it. Another popular product on La Palma and on all of the Canary Islands is cheese, Canarians love cheese, they even produce some fantastic varieties on the island, they take their cheeses very seriously.
You can dine in luxury restaurants or little side street cafes, whatever you fancy when you are out. There are numerous All Inclusive hotels to dine in. If its self catering you are going for then there will be no problem finding somewhere to eat.
