Illetas
Situated 10 km from Palma, this hillside resort is ideal for couples and families looking for good accommodation in picturesque surroundings. The hilly location of this resort does allow for some great views of the area but is also makes it a little harder for those with walking difficulties.
Illetas is 20 minutes from the airport.
The beach
The resort of Illetas has a number of small coves, some of which have private beaches belonging to the hotels beside them. The main beach is found under the cliffs, at just 200-metres long and 50-metres wide it can get crowded during high season. There are two beach clubs here both with lunch and dinner service, as well as loungers and parasols to hire for the day.
Things to do
The fairways of the Royal Bendinat Golf Club back onto the resort making Illetas ideal for golf lovers. The resort is also within walking distance of the exclusive marina at Puerto Portals, an area well known for having some excellent restaurants and expensive yachts.
Just a few kilometres inland is the village of Genova, here you can explore the smallest caves on the island; the Cuevas de Genova, these caves may not be quite as impressive as the Cuevas de Drach, but are interesting all the same.
Out and about
There are some shops, bars and restaurants along the main road of Illetas, though the close proximity to Palma provides plenty of shopping, wining and dining opportunities. There are good bus connections here providing easy access to neighbouring resorts.
Evening entertainment is limited in the resort, where most of the entertainment is hotel based. For night owls seeking something a bit livelier both Palma and Puerto Portals are just a short taxi ride away, and have a wider choice of bars and nightclubs.
Nearby attractions
Palma makes an ideal day excursion full of historical sites and museums, such as the Gothic sites of La Seu Cathedral and Basilica de Sant Francesc, the Palace de L'Almudaina found next to the cathedral and the only round castle in Spain, Castell de Bellver.
Enjoy the scenic train journey from Palma to Soller, it takes a picturesque route and with vintage carriages is a pleasurable and popular tourist attraction. Once in Soller you can extend your trip onto Port de Soller, where a vintage tram connects with the arrival of the train.
A very popular evening attraction is the Pirates Adventure (Els Pirates), which is based just outside of Magaluf (approx 8km away). A pirate themed dinner and show, with performances most evenings, there's a special late night adult's only performance in addition to the family show.
The Marineland which is located in the nearby resort of Portal Nous is a popular attraction for families with young children, the park features an aquarium with rays and sharks, and the shows includes performing sea lions, parrots and dolphins.
Further family fun can be enjoyed at the Western Waterpark found just outside the resort of Magaluf, the park is full of thrilling water-slides and fun pools for all ages to enjoy. Other attractions offering fun for all the family include Go-Karting and the Katmandu Fun-House both in Magaluf, and Golf Fantasia found in the heart of Palma Nova featuring three enjoyable courses.
