Gouves, Crete, Greece
This charming resort is situated on the North coast and provides an excellent base to explore the island. There are plenty of shops, bars, tavernas and clubs available in the resort but nightlife is rather quiet. If you are looking for somewhere a bit busier at night, there are plenty of resorts close at hand.
Gouves
Gouves is a well developed resort which offers long sandy beaches, historical sites and great choice of shops and restaurants. Gouves covers several smaller villages including the village of Kato Gouves and Pano Gouves. Most of the activity centres around Kato Gouves where there are tavernas, restaurants, bars and hotels.
Beaches
Kato Gouves offers a wide stretch of sand which shelves gently into the sea and offers some good swimming. Watersports are also available for those who want to get out on the sea and the beach is fringed with tavernas and bars.
Nearby Attractions
A drive to the top of Mount Ederi should be on the list of things to do and a wander around the old village of Pano Gouves is also a great way to spend the afternoon. For those seeking historical sites there are many churches to see including Agios Georgios (Saint George), Agios Ioannis (St. John) and Panayia (dedicated to the birth of Our Lady). Visitors should also take a trip to the island's capital of Heraklion is only a 30 minute drive away where there is a Venetian port and old walled city.
