Lindos Holidays

Lindos Holidays

If you're planning a trip to Lindos then packing a camera is just as essential as bringing sunscreen. This picturesque fishing village is located on the east coast of Rhodes and is one of the most photographed places in Greece. With its jumble of pretty whitewashed buildings cut out against the vividly blue Aegean Sea, it's not hard to see why. The stunning coastline curves and stretches lazily in a horseshoe bay, narrow streets beg to be explored and historic monuments dapple the landscape, stealing the hearts of its visitors every time. When it comes to Greek villages, little Lindos is not one to miss.

Why holiday in Lindos?

This hidden gem combines a blissful beachfront setting with all the adventure of a city break. Crystal-clear waters lap at the shore as breathtaking architecture hugs the hillside in a medley of land and sea. Plus, Lindos is blessed with a Mediterranean climate, making it the perfect pocket-sized paradise if you’re looking to jet off for some downtime in the sun. From modern complexes built into the cliffside to friendly home-from-home apartment blocks in the town centre, there are hotels in Lindos to suit all kinds of budgets and holiday checklists. But regardless of whether you're looking to spend your days sipping cocktails by the pool or hiking up hills in the heart of the action, this town is full of enchanting scenery, and you’ll want to soak up every ounce of its Greek charm.

Beach holidays in Lindos

The historic beauty and cultural landmarks might be one of Lindos' biggest draws, but who could say no to a lazy day at the beach? The main stretch of coast is carpeted with golden sands and framed by rocky headlands, proving popular with couples, day-trippers and families. Facilities such as kayaks, pedalos and paddle boats are sure to add a splash of fun to any day, or you can simply lay down a towel on the pillow-soft sands and not move a muscle for the rest of the day - we don't judge!

Pallas Beach is a smaller, more sheltered sandy spot in Lindos, located in the same bay as the main beach. This sweeping cove is particularly favoured by the locals, and the shallow waters make it ideal for families with young children. There is also a watersports centre and a jetty, where you can hop on a glass-bottomed boat if you fancy getting up close and personal with some of the marine life whilst keeping dry.

Food and drink in Lindos

Nestled amongst natural landscapes, there are plenty of restaurants and quaint cafés in Lindos that offer lovely views and even lovelier menus. Many of the traditional Greek tavernas will have balconies and rooftops where you can sample fresh seafood and Mediterranean specialities whilst admiring the view.

This charming town serves all of the traditional Greek dishes that you'd expect, such as mouthwatering moussaka and tangy tzatziki, along with some lesser-known staples including kolokythokeftedes - lightly fried courgette balls seasoned with mint and dill, and makarounes - homemade pasta served with fresh onions and melted cheese.

Restaurants dotted along the coast will often have a fish-themed menu, as they have access to some of the freshest seafood in Greece. After a day at Pallas Beach, you can stop by Pallas Beach Taverna, where you'll find a fan-cooled terrace and a menu ranging from grilled fish and salads to pizza and burgers.

If you're heading up to the Acropolis then don't miss Village Café. This whitewashed café is draped with vines and located near the beginning of the donkey trail. Here you'll find everything from hot or frozen coffee, juice and ice cream to salads, sandwiches and wraps.

For something a little more special, one of the most popular venues in Lindos has to be Melenos Roof Top Dining. Picture white tablecloths, intricate mosaic floors and medieval-style gazebos in a rooftop setting. The carefully-crafted menu of fresh ingredients paired with the lush landscapes and sea views make for a match made in heaven.

Visiting Lindos

There’s plenty to do in Lindos, and variety for every type of traveller - beaches for lounging on, pools for dipping in and history for admiring, whilst its petite size makes it compact enough to explore in a short space of time. The village centre is a car-free zone, creating a peaceful atmosphere with winding streets, quaint gift shops and traditional markets perfect for exploring.

There are historical landmarks scattered all around Lindos, but one that can’t be missed is the Lindos Acropolis. These beautifully preserved ruins are nestled on the clifftop overlooking the vibrant blue waters, providing stunning views all around. If you’re craving a busier scene then you can step into the Middle Ages at the island’s capital - Rhodes Town - which is just an hour’s drive away. Here you can lose yourself in cobbled passageways, hidden cafes and pastel-coloured architecture.

If you fancy something a little more modern, then why not pay a visit to the only bar in Greece made entirely of ice? Crafted by ice artists from Canada, Lindos Ice Bar is the perfect way to take your evening drinks to the next level. The bar is kept at a teeth-chattering -6 degrees all year round, but don’t worry - you’ll be provided with cosy ponchos and gloves so that you can relax and admire the unique setting. Grab a bite to eat or sample a frosty cocktail and make the most of the only time you’ll ever feel cold in Greece!

Useful information for visiting Lindos

The average flight time for holidays in Lindos from the UK is just over four hours. Because Lindos is only a small village it doesn’t have an airport, so you’ll land at Rhodes International Airport and then be transferred to your hotel. It’s always a good idea to book this in advance to ensure that your trip runs as smoothly as possible and you can get into holiday mode from the get-go. Unsurprisingly, Greek is the native language of Lindos, but English is also widely spoken due to high levels of tourism, so don’t worry if you forget your Greek dictionary. You’ll also need to swap your pounds for euros so you can treat yourself and loved ones to some souvenirs, and you’ll want to set your watch and electronic devices to two hours ahead of UK time.
