That Winter Holiday Wardrobe Might Be Pricier Than You Think!

Those of you who have been away on a holiday to somewhere with a colder climate, or those of you who are planning to, may have noticed that getting your holiday wardrobe together for the trip cost a fair bit of money. Well, that's if our latest research is anything to go by.

We spoke to 2,128 people aged 18 and over from around the UK who had all been on a holiday abroad in the last 12 months. 77% of them had been on a hot holiday within the last year (to somewhere with a warm climate) and 53% had been on a trip that they knew would be chilly when they got there. All respondents were asked about the holiday wardrobes that had bought for their trips.

Average Spend on Clothing For Warm Holidays is £168.00

87% of the respondents who'd been on holiday to somewhere with a warm climate in the last 12 months told us that they had bought new clothing items and accessories for the trip. When we asked how much they had spent, in total, on the new items for their warm holiday wardrobe, the average amount was revealed to be '£168.00' once all answers were taken into account.

93% of those who'd been on holiday to somewhere with a cold climate in the last 12 months told us that they had bought new clothing items and accessories for the trip. In particular, 57% said they bought a new coat and 48% bought new footwear. When we asked how much they'd spent, in total, on their cold holiday wardrobe, the average amount was revealed to be '£252.00', almost one hundred pounds more than the summer holiday wardrobe spend.

1 in 10 Items Bought For Holiday Wardrobe Get Left Unworn

72% of those who'd bought items for their cold holiday wardrobe said that they ended up wearing the majority of the clothing and footwear back home in the UK too; compared to just 51% who said the same for their warm holiday wardrobe.

Our survey also revealed that around 1 in 10 clothing, footwear or accessory items bought for a holiday wardrobe end up being left unworn and with the labels still on.

It's tempting when going on holiday - and sometimes necessary - to splash out on a few new items for your wardrobe. This is probably especially true when it comes to holidays that will be spent in cooler climates, because typically more layers are required to keep the chill away! Thermal socks, gloves, hats, scarves, coats and jumpers; it all starts to add up! However, the holiday wardrobe for a sunny break can be on the pricey side too; especially for those with a penchant for designer swimwear and sunglasses! Still, it seems the cold holiday wardrobe does work out to be more expensive, on average, but at least these items tend to be worn a lot back home as well.
