Two Fifths of New Parents Went on 'Babymoon' Before Birth

Forget honeymoons, there seems to be a new 'babymoon' trend sweeping the nation right now. Since the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge jetted off to the Caribbean to spend a bit of time together ahead of the arrival of their little one, it seems that the idea is catching on.
Here at sunshine.co.uk, we decided to poll 2,189 couples from around the UK, each of which had recently become parents for the very first time. We asked them all about any trips they'd taken in the run up to the birth of their baby, to see if this 'babymoon' trend really was the next big thing.
We first of all asked "After discovering you were going to become parents and before the birth of your child, did you go on a trip abroad as a couple?" which was something that 38% of the new parents said 'yes' to.
When we asked what had made them decided to go on a 'babymoon', 26% said they had already booked the holiday before they found out there would soon be a new addition to their family. 1 in 10, 11%, said they always went away at that time of year anyway and simply hadn't let the pregnancy get in the way of their trip. However, the vast majority (42%) said they just wanted some alone time together before becoming parents.
When asked where they had been on their babymoon, the most popular answers were as follows:
1. Tenerife
2. Sardinia
3. Maldives
4. Portugal
5. Riviera Maya, Mexico
64% of the couples taking part admitted that, now that their baby had arrived, they didn't get to spend much alone time together.
What do we think? Well, a babymoon is certainly an excellent idea. A trip as a couple before the pressures of parenting set in will certainly help to give some form of relaxation. However, pregnant women do need to be careful when it comes to flying, so short haul destinations earlier on in the pregnancy are your best bet for an extra special babymoon.
