The town of Vera is an enchanting and traditional town with cobbled streets, tapas bars and fabulous mountain views with good road access to the coast.
Vera Playa is a popular beach resort, particularly with naturists. Although nudity is not essential it is permitted and this includes on the beach, some residential complexes and surrounding streets.
Beaches
Vera Playa has 2km of unspoiled sandy beaches, and approx half of this is a designated naturist zone. From June to September the waters are good for swimming and are warm.
Things to Do
You can follow the coastal walk into the neighbouring fishing village of Garrucha, it will take a good hour, but you will enjoy sea and mountain views along the way. Alternatively, there is always the mini land-train, which runs during the summer. Also in the summer (July and August) there is an evening craft market and the general market is held on Saturday mornings.
Centrally located in the resort, the Parc Aquatique offers a fun day out with slides and flumes for all ages, set in gardens with sun bathing areas and swimming pools. The water park is open from June to September.
Club Marina Golf is approx 6km away, on the way of Mojacar and the Desert Springs Golf Club is approx 10km away. The Castillo of the Cuevas de Almanzora can be found approx 14km inland. It is a 16th century fortress and the medieval keep and Marquis Palace now house an art museum and an archaeology museum.
Out and About
In the town you can stroll around the cobblestone streets, relax in the town square or a pavement cafe; browse the little shops or the stalls at the Saturday morning market. There is a 16th century church to visit as well as the 16th century town hall which houses an interesting Ethonographic Museum.
In the beach resort, there is a large supermarket next to the Aqua Park and a fair choice of bars and restaurants. Vera Playa is a popular naturist resort and there is a designated area where nudity is commonplace, covering several streets, including a hotel, restaurants and a supermarket.
Nearby Attractions
The charming harbour town of Garrucha is just 3km drive and on the way you might see the historic Plaza de Torres bullring which is still in use today and offers guided tours. Garrucha itself has a Friday morning market, a long palm-lined promenade, sandy beach and is well known nationally for its red prawns. The popular beach resort of Mojacar is 10km away and from which the charming hilltop village of Pueblo Mojacar lies just 2km inland.
There is a regular local bus service which runs from Vera Playa to Vera, Garrucha and Mojacar.
