Skopelos offers a mix of small pebble bays to long sandy stretches, one of which being in Panormos and is said to be one of the most beautiful on the island.
The sleepy and laid back resort of Skopelos was recently brought into the limelight when hit Movie Mamma Mia was filmed on the island.
How Hot?
The peak months on Skopelos runs between June and September with average temperatures of 86ºF (30ºC) and above, while the spring and autumn months enjoy temperatures in the low to mid seventies.
Out and About
Regarded as one of the most beautiful islands in the Sporades, Skopelos is covered in lush green pine trees, relaxed resorts and secluded beaches, making it a truly romantic holiday destination. Nightlife is generally low key but the island does offer plenty of taverns, rooftop bars and restaurants serving fantastic seafood dishes and offering magnificent views over the glittering bay.
Over 50% of the island's surface is made up of forest and hills, making cycling one of the best ways to experience Skopelos. There are a whole host of challenging trails that take you through the beautiful landscape, ancient abbeys and coastal scenery. Walking is another popular activity and with the many quaint villages, churches and abbeys there is plenty to see whether you go out for a stroll on your own or join one of the organised walking tours.
A must see is the remote village of Meteora which offers the spectacular sight of a series of weird and wonderful rocky outcrops which have have over 30 ancient monasteries built on top of them. This really is a breathtaking sight and one not to be missed.
The island is also great for bird watchers and offers a great variety of species such as eagles, vultures and hawks amongst others.
If outdoor activities and beautiful beaches are high up on your list of holiday must haves then Skopelos is certainly worth a visit.

Skopelos is full of beach bars, tavernas and restaurants for everyone to enjoy. Whether it's a luxury meal or a quick snack, the resort has everything. Dishes to try include the fresh locally caught fish, Moussaka and souvlaki. Enjoy your meals as a meze, that way you can try a wide choice of dishes all served at the same time. Place them in the middle of the table and everyone can enjoy the different flavours.
Those on a self catering holiday are catered for as the island has numerous shops and supermarkets to buy all your everyday essentials. Dine in the quieter residential areas for a more traditional meal or in the more touristy parts of the resort for an International or Mediterranean meal.
