In the old quarter of Santa Brigida you will find the Church of Santa Brigida, set in a walled square with commanding views over the surrounding countryside and surrounded by narrow cobbled streets.
Just around the corner from here is the market square, a children's play area and gardens. There are a number of wineries in the region and, at the Casa del Vino, wine house museum, you can sample local wines and cheeses.
The annual carnival celebrations take place the first weekend in August and, also during August, the town hosts one of the largest horse fairs on the island.
Out and About
Santa Brigida market takes place every weekend and there is also a weekend farmer's in the nearby small town of San Mateo (7km) and a weekend market in the picturesque town of Teror (16km).
Just outside of the town, surrounded by vineyards and countryside, you will find the spectacular Caldera de Bandama (4km) replete with palm groves and orange trees. You can climb to the peak, the Pico de Bandama, for magnificent views over the crater, the north and east coasts of Gran Canaria and indeed, on a clear day, to Fuerteventura. The crater is very close to the forests of Monte Lentiscal, the caves of Las Meleguinas and the village of La Atalaya, where you can visit the pottery centre.
