Puerto del Rosario
Puerto Del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura and is based around the old harbour. The resort has its own beautiful sandy beaches as well as a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy. The resort runs a frequent bus service with easy access to other resorts in the area.
The airport is approx 6 km from Puerto Del Rosario.
Beaches
The seafront promenade is attractive with palms and benches with access to the commercial port, the ferry terminal, the fishing pier and the harbour.
The island beaches range from the large family friendly sandy bay of Caleta de Fuste (11km) and the secluded shallow lagoons of El Cotillo (38km) to the world famous windsurfing and kitesurfing beaches at Sotavento Beach near Costa Calma (70km) and Flag Beach, next to the spectacular sand dunes of the Corralejo Natural Park (28km).
Things to Do
The town is fairly easy to navigate, with plenty of statues and ornamental roundabouts to use as landmarks and there are a number of information boards outlining the history of the city from its humble beginnings as a small village of goat herders and fishermen.
Las Rotundas Shopping Centre, in the centre of the town, provides 3 floors of designer boutiques, general shopping, diners and a large hypermarket. The farmers market takes place in Puerto del Rosario on Saturdays and there is also a street market in Caleta de Fuste (11km) on Saturdays as well as street markets and craft markets from Friday to Monday in Corralejo (32km).
Visitor attractions in the city itself are limited but at the Casa Museu Unamo, which is located by the Church and town square, you can browse the dedicated museum and home of poet Miguel de Unamo.
Just outside of the city, (near Gisguey 7.5km), you can stroll around the restored house and farm at Casa de Felipito, stop for a picnic and learn how it's desert windswept landscape was tamed for agriculture. Also worth a visit is the restored village at La Alcogide Eco Museum in Tefia (20km) depicting rural life in days gone by and the attractive Canarian Art Centre in La Oliva (22km).
Out and About
Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura and makes a good base for exploring as well as experiencing authentic daily life on the island. The city is at the centre of an excellent road network with main roads running north and south for the entire east coast, from Corralejo to Jandia and; inland, to the northern towns of La Oliva and El Cotillo and the central towns and villages of Betancuria and Antigua.
In addition, you have access to good public transport links; the bus station runs half-hourly buses to Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste; there is a weekly fast ferry to Arrecife in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura airport is just 6km away.

Popular leisure attractions and family days out include the Golf Fuerteventura and Golf Club Salinas de Antigua in Caleta de Fusts (11km), the Baku Water Park in Corralejo (32km) and the Oasis Animal Park and Botanical Gardens at La Lajita (58km).
