The deep bay at Portinatx provides a scenic and sheltered setting for its 3 beaches. The main beach is the S'Arenal Gros, next to that is the Arenal Petit and a little further round is the picturesque cove of Playa Porto. All the beaches are sandy and shelve gently into turquoise waters which are beautifully clear for snorkelling and safe for swimming and children.
There is a diving school in the resort and other watersports available include pedalos and banana boat rides, water-skiing and speed boats. You can also take glass bottom boat trips from the pontoon at the beach.
Things to Do
Portinatx is surrounded by countryside dense with pine forests and a rocky coastline which is perfect for walking, hiking and cycling. Enjoy the views and discover picturesque coves and beaches, like Cala Xarraca which is a quiet little snorkelling spot.
The tourist train offers a variety of scenic tours throughout the week; take a trip along the coastal road and through the countryside to Puerto San Miguel and the traditional white-washed village of San Juan or; to one of the pretty nearby coves and beaches at Cala San Vicente or Cala Xarrac.
Out and About
There are shops and supermarkets in the resort and plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants near the beaches. Portinatx is a family friendly resort and the nightlife, whilst quite active, is more of the bar and restaurant type than the up-all-night clubbing scene.
Sunday evenings there is a small Hippy market. There is mini waterpark with 3 waterslides which is open in the peak season and also a bowling centre with a games arcade and pool tables.
Nearby Attractions
The village of San Miguel is approx 15 minutes drive away where you can sit in the town square, enjoy a tapas meal, visit the church or browse the stalls at the craft market (Thursday). From here you can head into Puerto San Miguel, laze on Benirras beach and see the Cave of Can Marca.
The hippy markets are very popular and are held during the day and evening in a number of resorts throughout the island. The markets at Es Cana, San Carlos and Santa Eulalia are all within half an hour drive.
