Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Found halfway between Cape Town and Durban on the Indian Ocean coast, Port Elizabeth is South Africa's fifth largest city and claims to have one of the best climates compared to other coastal resorts in the country. Known locally as just PE, Port Elizabeth has a reputation as the 'Friendly City' and makes for a great base to explore the area and starting point for the renowned Garden Route.

The Port Elizabeth coastline boasts some 40km of golden sandy beaches and rocky shores; Kings, Hobie, Humewood and Wells Estate Beach are the main swimming beaches, all of which have been awarded the Blue Flag Status. Popular surfing spots are the Pipe at Pollok Beach and Jefferys Bay.

Discover the journey of the 1820 Settlers by following the self-guided 5 km Donkin Heritage Trail visiting 47 historical sites in the Old Hill area of central Port Elizabeth.
The Bayworld complex is found on the beachfront and features an oceanarium, snake park and museum.
There are a number of local safari parks close to Port Elizabeth, where visitors can enjoy the opportunity to see lions, cheetahs, rhinos, elephants and buffaloes amongst others.
Out and about
The Boardwalk is a beachfront entertainment complex featuring a number of boutique and gift shops, restaurants offering everything from steak to sushi, bars, a cinema, a casino and a small outdoor funfair.
Other things of interest
The Garden Route is well known as one of the most impressive journeys to travel, the official start and finishing points are between the towns of Mossel Bay in the Western Cape and Storms River in the Eastern Cape. Due to its increased use and popularity, there borders are now considered to be formed by Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth.
