Plakias is a small village in a pretty bay with a good selection of accommodation, bars and restaurants and is becoming ever more popular with tourists. The resort is popular with those seeking excellent beaches and is also popular with walkers exploring the area and it's natural charm.

Plakias is a small village in a pretty bay which is 40 km south from Rethymnon. The village consists of a single street which runs along by the beach and a number of smaller street run off the main street with its shops and tavernas. There is a small harbour where many boat trips leave from to visit nearby beaches.

There is a curved bay offering a sand and shingle beach which is ideal for sunbathing and swimming. The beach is rarely crowded and is perfect for families seeking calmer waters. There is a "clothing optional" section of beach at the far end of the bay.

There are many historical sites and excursions across the surrounding areas which include the Knossos Palace which is 5km southeast of Heraklion, Chania with its Venetian harbour, lighthouse and fortress and the Samaria Gorges.
