Sights of historical and archaeological interest include the historic and ethnographic museum in the town, the remains of the Roman Temple of Jupiter and the Bulgarian Kozyak fortress
Natural attractions nearby include the remote beach and protected area of Irakli (9km) which continues around the coast to the lighthouse on the cliffs of Cape Emine (14km). Around the cape you can see the remains of the Emona fortress and monasteries or follow the nature paths to the tiny village of Emona.

The beach is back by a promenade, an attractive park area with palm trees and water features and the town square, which is complete with a fountain and the symbolic clock tower.
