The beach is 3km long and part of it is sandy and offers watersports and sun loungers available for hire. Another part of the beach is quieter and made up of shingle and pebbles.

Around Maleme are lots of historical sites including to the West there is an old World War II airfield and the church of Agios Antonios. For those seeking a lively town, Chania is only a twenty minute bus ride away where there is a Venetian harbour, fortress and lighthouse to wander around. The town is packed with restaurants, tavernas, bars and nightlife.
