There are many places to visit, such as the beautiful beaches at Vectra and Skala Eressos, the traditional village of Agiossos, the charming medieval town of Molyvos and Mytilini which is home to a historic castle. Lesvos is one of the best places in the Mediterranean for birdwatching and with the islands location and variety of habitats it is a haven for many rare species of bird.
One of the main activities is the wide range of watersports that is available to all. Thermi, Sigri and Vatera being popular for organised beach activities such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, waterskiing etc. Scuba diving is also popular and caters for beginners right through to the very experienced so hop on board and take one of the many boat trips and explore the clear seas and warm waters around the island.
If you prefer something a bit more leisurely you can take a glass-bottomed boat ride or a catamaran cruise around the island and even visit one of the neighbouring islands of Chios or Samos.

Lesvos is known for having some of the best cooking in Greece with its food being simple yet sophisticated. The island produces its own fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs to use in their cooking. Fish is very popular on the island, caught locally and served in most restaurants. Some of the popular dishes to try include Lakerda which is very similar to sushi, Mousaka and Souvlaki.
Everyone is friendly in Lesvos, restaurant owners will chat happily to passersby, inviting them in for a meal. Local tavernas are friendly as are the cafes dotted around. You will find the locals in the side street cafes playing backgammon, drinking Greek coffee and frappes. A great way to get to know all the locals and their traditions.
