The clean golden sands of Las Canteras Beach are widest behind the port area. The waters are protected by an off-shore barrier reef, which you can walk along at low tide and is ideal for scuba diving.

Las Palmas is a city of wide appeal boasting beautiful beaches, a port and a marina, the cosmopolitan quarter of Santa Catalina Park and the stunning old quarter of Vegueta. A wealth of watersports, museums, parks and gardens, cultural events and entertainment are right on your doorstep.
In addition, you are at the centre of excellent transport links to explore the island of Gran Canaria or to take the ferry or jetfoil to the neighbouring islands of Tenerife or Fuerteventura.
Out and About
The Santa Catalina Park fronts the social centre of the city, a cosmopolitan hub of bars and restaurants, shops and hotels. Here you can visit the fascinating Elder Museum of Science and Technology and the La Luz Castle and it%u2019s pretty rose garden.
In the old quarter, of Vegueta, you can stroll around the attractive narrow streets and squares of stunning architecture and stately homes. Here you can visit the resplendent Santa Ana Cathedral, the Columbus House Museum, the Atlantic Modern Art Centre and the Canary Island Museum.
Alongside the beautiful Alcaravaneras Beach and the Marina, between the Santa Catalina Park and the old quarter you will find the Doramas Gardens. Stroll around these beautiful sub-tropical gardens and relaxing water-features, browse the craft shops at the Canarian Village, take lunch on the patio and visit the Nestor Museum.
Marking the southern end of Las Canteras Beach, the Alfred Kraus Auditorium and Congress Centre, is the venue for many national and international cultural events.
Annual Events
Annual events hosted at Las Palmas include the International Music Festival, the International Film Festival, the International Opera Festival, the International Jazz Fesitval.
The Las Palmas Carnival takes place in February and the popular festivities of the Parade of the Three Wise Men and St Johns Day take place on the 5th January and 24th June respectively.
