Ipanema Beach sits south of Rio de Janeiro. The beach life culture is very distinct with surfers and sun worshippers. Ipanema holds it's own Carnival which attracts thousands of people every year.

Ipanema Beach is located just across from Copacabana. The area has some fantastic shopping and restaurants with life mainly centred around the beach. Volleyball and football is often played on the beaches and the vibrant night-life goes on till the early hours.

Ipanema Beach is a sociable stretch of golden sands popular for sun-bathing, various forms of surfing and beach games such as football, volleyball and frescobal. Ipanema Beach is bordered by Aproador Beach and Leblon Beach, which are also good for surfing.
Things to Do
At the picturesque Rodrigo de Freitas lake you can hire a paddle boat or a bike. The surrounding pathway is popular with cyclists, walkers, skaters and joggers.
Next to the lake you have the Catacumba Park where you can try zip-lining, climbing the rock wall or, take the tree-top canopy walk.
Behind the lake lies the Tijuca National Park where you can hike through the rain forests and Parque Lage, where you can relax in the gardens.
Out and About
There are many shops and restaurants in the resort as well as lively bars and nightlife venues. On a Sunday be sure to browse the Hippie Market at the General Osorio Park.
During the day you can visit the serene gardens and ponds at the Jardim Botanico or, the Moreira Salles Museum which is set in landscaped gardens and provides a photographic history of Brazil.
Nearby Attractions
The Corcovado Mountain is nearby and well worth climbing to see the Christ the Redeemer Statue and the most rewarding views at the top.
It is approx 3km to the centre of Copacabana and the Rio de Janerio city centre is approx 8km away.
