Fodele village is surrounded by orange tree groves and offers two beaches. There are some bars and tavernas but it is not the place to come if you are looking for lively nightlife. The resort is popular with older couples who appreciate the charm of traditional Crete village life.

Fodele village is positioned between Heraklion and Rethymnon and is a quiet and simple traditional resort where you will find ladies dressed in traditional black selling their hand embroidered wares. This village is immersed in a truly authentic Greek atmosphere and offers a choice of traditional tavernas and restaurants. The village is renown for being very green as it is built in an area of orange and lemon groves and its valley terrain makes it ideal for country walks. This resort is not for those seeking lively nightlife but instead wish to experience a peaceful village close to some historical sites.

Fodele features one beach which is touristy with hotels and a few tavernas and is reached by car and the other is more unspoilt and can only be reached from the village where the water is sheltered and calm making it ideal for children.
Nearby Attractions
For those wishing to visit more lively towns, the larger towns of Heraklion and Rethymnon are within easy reach. Fodele is the hometown of the artist El Greo and visitors should visit the El Greco House and Museum or the nearby ruins of Tilissos.
