Nestled between the shores of the Red Sea and the mountains, El Gouna is a fantastic destination for a holiday. There are many shops, bars and restaurants on offer, and five sandy beaches offering a variety of water-sport options.
El Gouna
El Gouna is a well designed holiday destination, built on 10km of beach and spread across islands and lagoons, the resort features a number of deluxe villa complexes, hotels of varying size and categories, a marina and a good choice of bars and restaurants.
An entry Visa is required for Egypt and costs approx 15 GBP per person.
Beaches
There are five sandy beaches in El Gouna; Buzzha beach, Mangroovy beach, Three Corners Hotel beach, Marina beach and Zeytouna beach.
Found on its own island is the Zetouna beach, featuring a 400-metre jetty which provides access into deeper water and the coral reef plateau. This beach has good facilities including towels, drinks and food, bathrooms and fresh-water showers.
To the north of the Abu Tig Marina is the Mangroovy beach, a well serviced beach particularly popular for kite-surfing. Buzzha beach is located on the northern end of Mangroovy beach, again with good facilities and a great spot for watching the kite-surfers.
Moods beach has a private beach club and is located on the northern side of the marina, as well as the usual facilities it features a massage parlour on the beach. The secluded beach on Tawila Island is accessed via a boat trip, and is a great spot for snorkelling.
Out and about
El Gouna is situated just north of Hurghada around 25km from its international airport, the resort features a marina, an 18-hole golf course, boutiques, elegant restaurants and bars. Getting around is easy within the resort with its local shuttle services, taxis and tuk tuks.
A variety of shops, market stalls, courtyard cafes, bars and restaurants can be found in El Gouna's downtown area which has been built in a traditional Egyptian style with winding alleys and inner courtyards.
The resort has a good variety of dining options and bars, and nightclubs for those looking to dance the night away. It offers a unique dine around programme where guests staying on half-board, full-board and all-inclusive may select to take a voucher (value dependent on where you are staying, not all hotels are part of the scheme) and dine at one of the participating restaurants in the resort.
Activities available in El Gouna include scuba diving, snorkelling, kite surfing, horse riding, boat trips and golfing.
