There are three sandy coves in Cala de Mallorca; Cala Domingos Grans and Cala Domingos Petits are separated by low cliffs, while Cala Antena is around 1 km north. The sand is fine and the water clear on all of the beaches, and all have sun-beds and parasols for hire, along with beach bars offering refreshments.
A further beach can be found just outside the resort, Cala Murada, which can be accessed via a coastal path from Cala Domingos. The beach is sandy and the water clear though deep. Behind the beach is a small lake, the Torrent des Fangar. The usual facilities are available with pedalos, sun-loungers, parasols and a beach bar for refreshments.
Out and about
Much of the resorts amenities can be found at the Centro Commercial, here you'll find a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There's also a mini-golf course and children's adventure playground with trampolines, mini go-karts, bouncy castle and climbing frames etc.
The resort has a low key nightlife, though there are a few lively music bars and a couple of discos, much of the evening entertainment is provided by the hotel and apartment complexes.
The resort mini-train operates throughout the day during the summer months running between the three beaches. If you're looking to travel a little further there is a public bus service into Palma, Porto Cristo and Manacor.
Things to do
There are a number of glass bottomed boat trips to take along the east coast, visiting remote beaches and other resorts such as Porto Cristo and Sa Coma. Land excursions include trips to the town of Manacor, famed for its artificial pearls; or the town of Felanitx, worth visiting on a Sunday morning just to experience the market which is widely recognised as being one of the best on the island.
The Exotic Parque Los Pajaros is found just outside the resort, it features a children's zoo, flamingos and a garden with a variety of cactus. Alternatively the Tropical Park Jumaica, situated on the road from Porto Cristo to Porto Colom, is a lush tropical garden with rare plants and free flying exotic birds.
For golfers the nearest golf course is Vall d'Or, a nine-hole course just a 10 minute drive away.
Just 10 km away in Porto Cristo are the popular Caves of Drach, the caves feature many caverns with beautifully formed stalactites and stalagmites, as well as a large subterranean lake where classical music recitals are performed daily.
