Portals Nous is an exclusive but small resort just 10km from Palma and well known for its marina lined with expensive yachts and pricey eateries. The marina is the place to enjoy some excellent cuisine; it has a Michelin starred restaurant and a number of chic bars.
The transfer time from Palma Airport is just 20 minutes.
The beach
The beach (Playa Oratori de Portals) is adjacent to the marina and offers a lovely stretch of golden sand around 250-metres in length. There is a small beach bar here along with sun-loungers and parasols to hire.
At the port end of the beach a number of watersports facilities are available including pedalos, jet skis and windsurfing equipment; and at the opposite end is a beach bar set on a small rocky platform.
Things to do
The Royal Bendinat golf course is just a five minute drive away, making this a great base for golfers. The other attraction in the area which is particularly popular with families is Marineland, this park features an aquarium with rays and sharks, and the shows include performing sea lions, parrots and dolphins.
Out and about
For such a small resort there are a surprising number of restaurants to choose from, many of them centred by the marina providing an idyllic spot to sit eat and stare longingly at some of the fabulous yachts. The resort is also a great place for nightlife, with plenty of late night music bars.
Nearby attractions
A popular evening attraction is the Pirates Adventure (Els Pirates), which is based just outside of Magaluf (approx 5km away). A pirate themed dinner and show, with performances most evenings, there's a special late night adult's only performance in addition to the family show.
For family fun the Western Waterpark found just outside the resort of Magaluf, is full of thrilling water-slides and fun pools for all ages to enjoy. Other fun attractions include Go-Karting and the Katmandu Fun-House both in Magaluf, and Golf Fantasia found in the heart of Palma Nova featuring three enjoyable courses.
Full of historical sites and museums Palma makes an ideal day excursion; visit the Gothic sights of La Seu Cathedral and Basilica de Sant Francesc, Palace de L'Almudaina found next to the cathedral and Castell de Bellver the only circular castle in Spain.
Take the scenic train from Palma to Soller, it takes a magnificently picturesque route and with vintage carriages is a pleasurable and popular tourist attraction. Once in Soller you can extend your trip onto Port de Soller, where a vintage tram connects with the arrival of the train.
