Downtown Nassau offers plenty of historic and cultural attractions including Fort Charlotte, Fort Fincastle, the Water Tower and the Queens Staircase; Christchurch Cathedral, Government House on Duke Street, Rawson Square, the 18th century Dunmore House which houses the National Museum and the Doongalik Studios Art Gallery.
There are several options for guided tours from leisurely walking to a memorable ride in a charming horse-drawn carriage.
Out and About
The capital of the Bahamas, Nassau is located on New Providence Island and linked to Paradise Island via two long foot bridges which lead out from the harbour.
Shopping at the world-famous Straw Market, surrounded by the well preserved British Colonial architecture lining Bay Street is a pleasure and provides the opportunity to pick up handicrafts from local artisans as well as duty free bargains.
Annual events include the BahamArts Festival (October), the historic Nassau Cup Ocean Race (November), the International Film Festival (December) and the Bahamas Open Martial Arts Championship (March).
Nearby Attractions
The Adastra Gardens and Zoo, famous for its marching pink flamingoes, is a great family day out as is Blue Lagoon Island, where you can interact with the dolphins and sea lions.
