As South Africa's most popular tourist destination, Cape Town has plenty to offers its visitors, with amazing views, great nightlife, superb cuisine and a good variety of all-round activities.

The beaches along Cape Town's west coastline face the freezing Atlantic waters which are generally choppy and can offer good surfing conditions. Camps Bay and Clifton are two popular areas and their beaches are busy in the summer season.
Calmer and slightly warmer waters can be found on the False Bay side of the peninsula which is generally more popular with families, in particular Gordon's Bay and Strand beaches.
Things to do
Attractions in the city include the country's oldest building, The Castle of Good Hope, the infamous Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, and of course Table Mountain.
The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is a popular tourist hub and here you will find a number of shops and restaurants, the Two Oceans Aquarium and the Marine Museum, as well as being the starting point for harbour tours and trips across to Robben Island.
Other activities available here include deep sea fishing for the anglers, shark cage diving for the daring, surfing and kite-surfing for the wave-seekers.
Out and about
Though a large city, much of the popular tourist spots are walkable and safe to do so during the day. However to get the most out of your visit hiring a car is highly recommended and provides an easier and more reliable way to explore the surrounding area, such as the Cape Point, the beaches in False Bay and the winelands.
There are three distinct areas for nightlife in Capetown, Long Street in the centre is full of late bars, Victoria Road in Camps Bay is lined with bars, clubs and restaurants, and Green Point offers a trendy selection.
The Bo-Kaap neighbourhood also known as the Cape Malay Quarter is a quaint area of Cape Town found at the bottom of Signal Hill. Full of character, cobbled streets, brightly coloured houses and mosques, there's also a museum and a regular food and craft market.
Camps Bay is a popular holiday choice for those wanting to combine a beach and city vacation. A suburb of Cape Town it features white sandy beaches, a number of beachfront cafes and restaurants as well as a trendy night scene.
Other things of interest
A trip out to the Cape Winelands is a must and there are several areas to choose from; Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl and Somerset West are world famous for their whites, reds, sherries, ports and brandies.
Cape Point is located at the south-western tip of Africa, around 60 km from Cape Town. With its picturesque bays and beaches, and breathtaking ocean and mountain scenery it's a beautiful spot for hiking or a simple relaxing picnic.
