Altinkum, Bodrum Region, Turkey
Altinkum is a haven for beachlovers, situated on the Aegean coast of Turkey.
Altinkum
The purpose built resort of Altinkum incorporates the town of Didim and small villages dotted around the beautiful Bozbuk Bay, including Akbuk. From Turkish music and belly dancing to long sandy beaches and scenic boat trips, the resort has a holiday atmosphere and plenty of sights and sounds to enjoy. Transfer time approx 1-1hr 30 min.
Beach
The main beach is wide and sandy, following the sweeping curve of the bay and is backed by a promenade. There are 2 further beaches next to the harbour which are a little quieter. Here, the waters of the Aegean are warm, clear and shallow for swimming and snorkelling or you can hire sun loungers and shades and just laze on the beach.
Things to Do
From the harbour, you can take a boat trip around the coast, visiting one of the many remote coves and alternative beaches which line this stretch of coastline and the Bozbuk Bay. Diving trips and fishing trips are also available. Along the beaches, you can enjoy a range of watersports and activities, such as canoes and pedalos, jet skis, parasailing, ringos and banana boats.
Behind the town of Didim (approx 4km back from the beach) you can visit the remains of the huge Temple of Apollo which dates back to 6BC.
Out and About
The promenade is lined with gift shops and boutiques, bars and eateries and, in the heart of the resort, you will find a vibrant atmosphere at Dolphin Square. Restaurants cater for all tastes and budgets and you can find plenty offering traditional Turkish fare or British menus.
There are a good number of bars around Dolphin Square and along the beach, ranging from the family friendly to the loud and lively; with sports bars, Irish bars and karaoke bars in between. There are also a couple of nightclubs open until the early hours, near the harbour.
The town of Didim, a short walk back from the beach, has a more authentic atmosphere and here you will find banks and supermarkets. The large Didim market which is held on Saturday mornings has stalls ranging from local food produce to clothing.
Set back in the bay, 20 minutes drive around the coast from Altinkum, the former fishing village of Abkuk has a more relaxed and traditional atmosphere with a scenic mountainous backdrop.
Nearby Attractions
Day trips and excursions are widely available and a couple of the popular ones are to the Designer Outlet shops and the market in Soke, for branded fashion and international sports labels and, of course, to the ancient city of Ephesus which makes for a truly fascinating and memorable day out.
