The beaches in Ocho Rios have white sands and offer a variety of activities including volleyball and water-sports such as scuba diving, kayaking and jet skis. From Ocho Rios beach you can watch the cruise ships come in or you can relax on the the pretty Island Village Beach or the more secluded Mahogany Beach.
Things to Do
In the heart of the Ocho Rios the Turtle River Park provides a welcome retreat where you can enjoy a peaceful stroll around the gardens and it's well stocked pond.
In the hills overlooking Ocho Rios, the botanical Shaw Park Gardens are set in 25 acres and feature hundreds of beautiful tropical flowers, a waterfall and breathtaking views.
The Coyaba River Garden is also very pretty and home to well maintained gardens of tropical trees and flowers, koi carp ponds, a museum and the Mahoe Falls. Climb the falls (with a guide) for magnificent views over Ocho Rios.
Just outside the resort, the Mystic Mountain leisure complex is set amid 100 acres of rainforest where you can zip-line through the treetops, race down the bobsled track or simply enjoy the views from the chair lift.
Also just outside the resort, at Dolphin Cove, you can swim with the dolphins, snorkel with the stingrays or watch the shark show; take out a glass-bottomed kayak, follow the jungle walk and relax with a buffet lunch on the beach.
Out and About
For duty free shopping there are a number of shops at Island Village, as well as a reggae museum and the popular Margaritaville bar. For locally produced and hand-crafted items the Ocho Rios Craft Market houses around 100 stalls.
For authentic, fresh fish and seafood dishes, or to watch the local fishermen at work, go along to Fisherman's Beach which is just along from Island Village. For general nightlife, there are many bars and restaurants along Main Street where you can sample Jamaican cuisine and listen to live music.
Nearby Attractions
Five minutes drive (or a short boat trip from the cruise terminal) brings you to the famous Dunn River Falls. Located at it's own beach and surrounded by lush forestry, the 200' waterfall is fairly easy to climb for most people.
Also just a few minutes drive away, the historic Harmony Hall houses a large Arts & Crafts gallery above it's restaurant, showcasing the artworks and hand-crafted items of around 100 local artisans.
