Marsascala, Malta
Marsaskala town is centred on the promenade where most of the bars, restaurants and cafes can be found, and it can get pretty lively with tourists during the summer. Although there is no sandy beach here, there are plenty of areas for swimming and sunbathing along the rocks and there is a beach just 1km away.

One of the most beautiful places on Malta and now has the fastest growing population of anywhere on the island. There are plenty of activities available, historical buildings and many beautiful walks through the surrounding countryside and hills.

Marsascala is nestled between the charming Marsascala Bay and the scenic St Thomas Bay. A promenade runs around Marsascala Bay, which is a narrow inlet packed with fishing boats and small water craft. At the wide bay of St Thomas there is a small sandy beach and shallow swimming waters. Along the coastline, between the two, you will find some rocky beaches.
Things to Do
DiveMed are based in Marsascala and offer everything from equipment hire and try dives, to technical diving and open water Padi courses. Fishing trips, boat trips and water taxis are available from both of the bays.
Marsascala Family Park is located approx 450 metres back from the harbour and features an informative Visitor Centre as well as a large recreational park. The park features colourful children's play areas, mazes, outdoor gym equipment, a football court, an amphitheatre, a picnic area and cafe, WiFi and parking.
There are a number of historic sights to visit including St Annes Church in the town, the 17th century Mamo Tower and the St Gaetan Chapel overlooking St Thomas Bay and the St Thomas Tower which stands on the headland at the entrance of Marsascala Bay.
Out and About
Marsascala Bay is lined with bars, cafes and restaurants and provides a characterful setting with a buzzing holiday atmosphere in the summer evenings. There are plenty of benches along the promenade where you can sit back and watch the boats.
In the town there are a couple of small plazas and essential services including a post office, pharmacy and ATM banking facilities.
Nearby Attractions
Marsaxlokk is a very pretty fishing village on the south coast, approx 4km from Marsascala. Watch the fishermen trade their catch in the mornings and enjoy lunch at a waterfront cafe, overlooking the colourful fishing boats. There is a busy market held here on Sundays.
A little further round the coast from Marsaxlokk is the small sandy beach at Pretty Bay in Birzebbugia. Or, head north and have fun at the Splash and Play Water Park at Tul ll-kosta (19km).
Of course the city of Valletta (12km) is well worth visiting for its charming streets, natural harbours and immense historic interest. The ancient inland towns of Rabat, Mdina and Mosta are all approx 18km away.
