Beaches

The long, sandy lagoon beaches are quiet, unspoiled and ideal for sun-bathing and watching the sunset. Divided into bays, formed by lava rocks, the waters here are clear, calm and ideal for swimming with shallow little rock pools where the kids love to play.

Following the road south from the new harbour and the Toston Tower you will come to the wild beaches favoured by experienced surfers.

Things to Do

In the town there are diving, scuba-diving, cycling and surfing centres; a colourful, but simple, children's playground and a couple of modern squares to relax in too.

There is also a small sports stadium where you might even catch the El Cotillo football team playing a home game.

Shops are limited as this is still an unspoiled fishing village, but you have bakeries and a supermarket as well as some very good restaurants.

Out and About

The harbours that front this traditional Canarian fishing village divide two very different coastlines which makes this secluded resort appealing to surfers as well as those seeking tranquility and uncrowded beaches.

Close to the new harbour you will see the historic, defense tower known as the Toston Tower. The tower is also known as the Castillo de Rico Roque and houses an information centre. It is similar in design to the Torre de San Buenaventura by the harbour in Caleta de Fuste.

A few moments walk from the new harbour in the opposite direction takes you past the old harbour and out to the lagoon beaches. If you walk along the lagoon beaches (2.5km) you will come to the Traditional Fishing Museum and the Toston Lighthouse, which affords spectacular views.

Nearby Attractions

Travellling through the volcanic landscapes, you can visit the traditional inland towns and villages of El Roque (1.5km), Lajares (7.5km), La Oliva (14km) and Mount Tindaya.

Corralejo, with its harbour, nightlife, waterpark, 9-hole golf course and famous Dunes Natural Park is approx 20km.
