Hisaronu, Dalaman Region, Turkey
Hisaronu is a pretty, small resort which is nestled on a mountain plateau overlooking the stunning beach of Olu Deniz.
Hisaronu
A firm favourite with British travellers due to the location and amenities in the town centre. The 'High Street' is packed with cut price shops, some excellent local restaurants and plenty of lively nightspots to keep you going into the early hours. A perfect choice for families, couples and groups alike.
Transfer time approx 1hr - 1hr 30 min.
Beaches
With Hisaronu being a hilltop resort, it has no beach of its own but it is just 4km from the beautiful Olu Deniz beach and is easily reached by dolmus. As well as the main beach, there is also the stunning Blue Lagoon which I'm sure you have seen many pictures of before. There are canoes and pedaloes for hire and a variety of cafes for drinks and snacks.
Being such a beautiful beach, Olu Deniz beach can get very crowded so you may want to visit one of the quieter beaches in the area. Sugar Beach is located on the other side of the blue lagoon, just 10 minutes away and is a nice shingle beach with calm, crystal clear water which is just perfect for small children.
Things to Do
Hisaronu is a small resort and is fairly quiet and laid back through the day with most people relaxing at their hotel or wandering round the souvenir shops. There is plenty going on at night time though such as go karts, fairground with various rides such as the pirate ship and dodgems and there is also a drag show, "Talk of the Town".
There are plenty of boat trips available from here and they are a great way of seeing the area, you might even see some archaeological sites or get a chance to do some snorkelling. For a relaxing and fun day on the water, jump on board one and take one of the many boat trips.
If you prefer to explore the area on dry land, there are plenty of paths and tracks for walkers and cyclists. The scenery is fantastic and it is a great way to see the area at your own pace.
Out and About
There is a good variety of tourist/souvenir shops as well as jewellery and local craft shops so plenty of options available if you enjoy an afternoon out shopping.
Although Hisaronu is a developing resort, many of the restaurants still retain a Turkish feel and serve traditional dishes together with Turkish hospitality. There are plenty of bars which are ideal if you are just looking for a quiet drink but if you want something a bit livelier, you will find it here also. Along the main street, you will find anything from Karaoke bars, foam parties, cabaret and drag acts, quite a mix but something for everyone.
Nearby Attractions
The cobbled streets, mosques and selection of local craft shops in the traditional resort of Fethiye are just a 15 minute bus ride away. Grab a bargain in one of the many shops then head down to the marina for a relaxing drink while checking out the many yachts.
You could also visit one of the mud baths in Dalyan, a fun and relaxing way to cleanse the skin. Or if you are a lover of nature, visit Butterfly Valley where you will see many butterflies and some amazing scenery. Turtle Beach in Dalyan is also worth a visit as it is the nesting site for loggerhead turtles. You may be lucky enough to see the turtles laying their eggs if you are there in the right season.
The abandoned village of Kayakoy is only a 15 minute bus ride away and is a fascinating day out for all the family. There are over 1000 old buildings to explore and although it can be quite erie, it is worth seeing. There is also a cafe here should you need a little refreshment.
There are a couple of waterparks in the area which are good fun. The closest one is at Ovacik and is part of a hotel and the other one is at Calis Beach. Both are great fun but maybe not a whole days trip.
Olu Deniz has become very popular for paragliding with people coming from all over the world to participate here. Usually in October, there is a big paragliding competition and you will see numerous paragliders in the air at any one time and you can even take a tandem flight with an experienced pilot.
