Es Cana, Ibiza, Spain
One of the more quieter resorts of Ibiza, which has still managed to hold onto its rustic charm.
Es Cana
Es Cana is ideal for families and couples, mainly due to its long sandy beaches and shallow waters, not forgetting the infamous Hippy Market that takes place every week, normally on a Wednesday during the summer season. Es Cana is surrounded by a small sheltered bay, ideal for windsurfers and children. It has an extremely good choice of local and international cuisine and is considered to be the ideal resort where you can escape the more hectic side of Ibiza. Transfer time is approximately 1 hour.
Beaches
The beach at Es Cana is long (approx 350 metres) and sandy with plenty of activities going on. The waters are shallow and transparent, ideal for children, swimming and snorkelling. Other water sports available include pedalos and banana boats, parasailing, windsurfing and scuba diving.
The beach sweeps around the bay and is wider on the northern side, where there are plenty of sun loungers available. At the southern end of the beach there is a small harbour and opportunities for fishing and boat trips.
Things to Do
Just a couple of hundred metres north of Es Cana beach lies the unspoiled beach of Cala Nova which is particularly popular with surfers. And a little further along, you will find the family friendly sands of Cala Lenya. Cala Lenya is backed by cliffs and has a choice of beach bars. Its shallow waters are great for snorkelling and swimming and other activities include windsurfing and beach volleyball.
Wednesday is market day in Es Cana and the Hippy Market is a great place to find jewellery, clothing, arts and handicrafts. The resort can become quite busy as the market is pretty famous throughout the island.
Out and About
The resort has a good range of shops and there are many beach bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from. Nightlife is vibrant but certainly not as boisterous as San Antonio.
The surrounding countryside is rich with fertile red soil valleys, replete with fruit and nut groves and dotted with rural properties. Board the tourist train from Es Cana which runs to San Carlos and take in the scenic views.
Nearby Attractions
The Saturday market in the small white-washed town of San Carlos (4km), known as the Las Dalias Hippy Market, is popular with locals and tourists alike. The market is very well attended and has a good atmosphere with around 200 stalls. During the summer there is also a night market.
Santa Eulalia is just a few minutes away (4km south) and here you can stroll around chic boutiques and the chic marina. The Ibiza Golf Course is open to non-members and is approx 15 minutes drive away (10km). For livelier nightlife, Ibiza Town is less than half an hour away (20km).
