Caleta De Fuste, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Costa Caleta (originally known as Caleta de Fuste) a developing purpose built resort boasts an excellent choice of watersports and a good selection of shops.
Caleta De Fuste
The beach shelves gently with clear waters and the bay is protected by a breakwater. The resort offers a good choice of shops with a Saturday market and low key nightlife. Best suited for families with young children. 15 minutes airport transfer
Beaches
Caleta de Fuste is set in a wide, horseshoe shaped bay of golden sand backed by a promenade and with sheltered waters, ideal for families. There are loungers and shades for hire and volleyball nets on the beach.
On the southern stretch of the resort the lagoon beaches are also backed by a wide promenade and tend to be quieter.
Things to Do
The harbour in Caleta de Fuste is the centre point for water-sports and boat trips. From here you can take whale-watching cruises, boat-trips with under-water viewing or go deep sea fishing. The Deep Blue Dive Centre offers everything from introductions to scuba diving through to PADI Open Water Courses.
The southern end of the resort is dominated by two championship 18 hole golf courses. The Golf Club Salinas de Antigua (par 70) and the Fuerteventura Golf Club (par 72), both have a Golf School, a Pro Golf Shop and, of course, a Club House. There is a further 18 hole golf course at Las Playitas (35km).
Next to the harbour you will see the Torre de San Buenaventura, an 18th century fortress with stone round walls and a small drawbridge. It is similar in design to the Toston Tower on the outskirts of El Cotillo and both towers house an information centre.
Out and About
There are plenty of shops, bars, pavement cafes and restaurants in the resort located on the main strip and at a number of commercial centres spread throughout the resort. Where ever you stay in Caleta de Fuste you will never be too far from the resort amenities.
Opposite the golf courses, the Atlantico Shopping Centre hosts regular cultural events in its outdoor amphitheatre which bridges the area between the indoor shopping centre and the beach front promenade. The Saturday street market is held at the Montecastillo Shopping Centre.
Nearby Attractions
From the Atlantico, follow the road for approx 2km south of the resort to visit the working salt pans and the Museum of Salt. For family days you can visit the Oasis Park in La Lajita and the Baku Water Park in Corralejo, which are both approx 45km away (albeit in opposite directions). The capital of Puerto del Rosario is approx 13km and the inland towns of Antigua and Betancuria are 20-30km.
