Barcelona is a mix of old and new, with historic streets and classic art galleries rubbing shoulders with a vibrant nightlife and cutting edge architecture.

How Hot?

Barcelona is a popular city break and one that can be enjoyed at anytime of the year.

Probably the best time to visit the city is to go out of the peak summer months where temperatures are scorching and busy, June and September provide the ideal temperatures and slightly less crowds.

The months with the most rainfall are April to May and October through November.

Out and About

Barcelona is Spain's most cosmopolitan city and is famous for an incredibly varied and vibrant cultural life, some of the finest shopping in Europe and a fantastic nightlife.

When you think of Barcelona, most people will automatically think of Antonio Gaudi and his amazing work. His magical designs can be found all over Barcelona and include immense monuments, apartment blocks, sculptures and his unforgettable unfinished cathedral, the Sagrada Familia which is one of the world's most extraordinary buildings. To fully appreciate Gaudi's work it is advisable to take a Gaudi guided tour of the city.

There are so many museums and galleries to visit so whether you are interested in the works of Picasso, Catalan culture or maritime history there is something for you here. It is also possible to take a guided tour of Barcelona Football Club which even for non football lovers, can be very interesting.

While guided tours round specific buildings are great, it is also possible to take a guided tour round certain areas of the city and have all the amazing architecture pointed out to you. Tours are ideal for some but others may prefer to see the city at their own pace, strolling through the streets and squares and stopping for a little refreshment at one of the many bars and cafes. The most famous street in Barcelona is Las Ramblas which is great for people watching and full of street entertainers but please be aware of pick pockets.

If you want to get away from the busy city for the day, why not head to Poble Espanyol, a theme park which is both entertaining and informative. The park showcases the different regional cultures of Spain with arts and crafts, traditional performances and examples of architecture. There are lots of supervised activities for the children which will give the adults a chance to fully appreciate the workshops and exhibitions.

If it's a day of much needed relaxation you need, take a trip to the beach which is just a short walk from the city centre. The sandy beach is perfect for lazy days or do a little kite surfing or windsurfing if you feel a little more energetic. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby if you need a break from the sun.

Out for Lunch!

Paella is very well known in Barcelona along with a typical Spanish diet. Olive oil is widely used by most people when cooking. The typical cuisine in Barcelona is a Catalan cuisine, mainly based on fresh seafood, meat, poultry, fruit and vegetables. A popular dish served is Pa Amb Tomaquet, a large slice of fresh country bread rubbed with tomato and olive oil and topped with cheese, ham and anchovies.

Barcelona is full of restaurants, bars, cafes and snack bars. You can dine in luxury restaurants or spoil yourself and enjoy a meal in one of the Michelin star restaurants in the city centre. There is something for all budgets in Barcelona.
